Eastern Cape

Tsitsikamma, Baviaanskloof, Southern Drakensberg, Great Karo

This beautiful region presents an intriguing tapestry of scenic landscapes, cultural and historical diversity and natural treasures, considered to be amongst the best South Africa has to offer. Here you can relax on golden beaches, ski down the snow covered slopes of a mountain, dive the clear blue waters of the Indian Ocean or explore the far horizons of the arid Karoo on foot. Whether it is the eerie call of the fish eagle, the sound of the waves rolling onto an unspoilt beach or the glittering lights of the city that attracts you, the Eastern Cape has it all.

INTRODUCTION

No region in the country beats the Eastern Cape for it’s unique portrayal of the diverse natural, cultural and historical riches that make up the complete South African experience.

All year round a wealth of leisure opportunities abound through out the region. Splendid trails to be explored on foot, on horseback, mountain bike, canoe or even in scuba gear. Africa’s ‘Big Five’ can be viewed up close in a malaria free environment. Snow skiing, trout fishing and other outdoor activities.

A rare blend of cultures, lifestyles and ethnic traditions all shared by warm hearted folk who want their visitors to feel at home.

THE WESTERN REGION

This beautiful region offers the visitor a wide choice of holiday attractions, with leisure options ranging from hiking through the lush green valleys and mountains to surfing and sunbathing on it’s golden beaches. The area around Kareedouw is remarkably rich in fynbos and wild flowers, which in bloom, is a magnificent sight. A wide variety of game viewing opportunities is available within a short distance of Port Elizabeth. The region bears a rich legacy of an area which saw the first meetings of the British, Dutch, German and Xhosa people. As landing place of the 1820 Settlers, Port Elizabeth boasts some of the finest architectural attractions in the country. Whatever age or interest, visitors to the region are faced with endless opportunities well worth exploring.

THE AMATOLA

This is a region with a long and diverse history, depicted in it’s museums and monuments. It is also ‘Big Five’ country, boasting various game and nature reserves where the visitors can experience nature at it’s best. The area hosts the Standard Bank National Arts Festival, the biggest festival of theatre, dance, crafts and music in the southern hemisphere, attracting thousands of visitors annually.
